Shelf Candy {4}

A Saturday meme from Five Alarm Books Reviews where once a week you do judge the book by its cover.

This week my shelf candy is Burning Bush by Kenya Wright. That’s a gorgeous dress, and the fact that the heroine isn’t freaking out suggests to me that the fire is there by her own will – that it will give her power and the dress is a magic garment that won’t burn (like the burning bush in the Bible, perhaps?). There’s also something very enticing about the way the designing puts the sky on the other side of bars that makes me want to fly out the window and find out what’s beyond those bars, even if all I see from this side is the sky (and a very beautiful sky at that).
What’s your shelf candy this week?

  1. WOOOOOOW!! Her dress is on fire! *o*
    That's a really great (and suprising!) choice, Annie! I truly love it <3 Totally agree with you, but I'm not so optimistic about the bars; I just feel like they are keeping her a prisoner or something…

    Anyhow, great shelf candy pick! <3

    1. Thanks, Vivi! 🙂 You're probably right about the bars – I just feel like there's more of a story when I want to see what's on the other side and the bars are in the way :). Something about them that makes me more curious about the beyond than a simple window would, if that makes any sense.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Oh, what an absolutely GORGEOUS cover!! The contrast between the burning dress and the sky beyond the bars is very effective. The sky makes the burning dress stand out even more, and vice versa!

    I love your insights about the story, based on this cover. Yes, the fire could very well be a magical one, judging by the girl's lack of concern. AWESOME pick this week!! : )

  3. Ah! I LOVE how the end of the dress turns into a fire. Perfect pick for this week. I don't exactly love the bars…like Vivian said, I feel like they would be keeping her in…they look large and overbearing… But anyway…[:

  4. I love how the dress is on fire! Those bars do raise a question though – are they keeping her in, or keeping something else out?!

  5. There is definitely a story there. Wow. I read the synopsis on Goodreads and I am not able to see the connection to the cover through that. This might be one of those books that have that "ah ha" moment as you read it and make the connection to the fire and bars.
    Anyway, great pick. The dress is beautiful and the fire looks awesome. Thanks for sharing it.

  10. Beautiful cover and a book that I have not seen before! It really is beautiful and the kind of cover that would make me pick up the book if I saw it on the shelf in the store. Great choice!
